I have four crowlers from the closure of Peekskill Brewery. I’m saving them for special occasions, with this Simple Sour cracked open to celebrate getting behind the mic Wednesday. Other than the odd karaoke appearance, the last public strumming may have been back in 2015 (if YouTube archives can be believed). It felt good, it was nerve wracking, and I’m grateful for the support at @slaintepeekskill from the @breweryrunning crew et al. One and only night in Watkins Glen, I stopped into @upstatebrewingflx for a few brews. The staple Common Sense Kentucky Ale is an easy drinking malt-forward brew that goes down easy, the Roasted peppermint-mocha brown ale was quite subtle and an amazing alternative to stout heaviness. Finally, the Blizzard of Oz is a strong way to end the day, an imperial stout that sneaks up on ya. Honorable mention: the Dirty Chai brews a skew away from the typical pumpkin spice flavors common this time of year. Last night in Ithaca and I needed to hit the namesake @ithacabeer brewery! Of course I had a short pour of the ubiquitous Flower Power WIPA, but also tried the allspice and ginger-forward Fuggly Sweater. They also had “5 Barrel Batch” limited releases, of which I sipped the Hefeweizen. All in it was $20 before tip for three 8oz pours and a four-pack! Finally made it to @thecatskillbrewery! The iconic angry raccoon has made its appearance several times on my trips for #project13by62 . Of note is Ratface Macdougall, an orange-forward hazy DIPA with big body and smooth taste, and Devils Path had classic bitterness I could session easily. Huge kudos to the staff. A few days prior a wonder storm downed lines, and I overheard stories of gratitude for locals using the facilities to power phones - and trade stories of how spontaneous BBQ’s would be required to make use of meat in broken fridges.
