David's Chili

A few days ago, I lost my ex. Its a strange thing to write: he and I were together for over 13 years. Five years ago, we split amicably. At least, from my feeling, there was no animosity. We drifted to our own separate ways. Keeping up with him over the years I know he had had his share of strife, yet one thing that was always consistent is that he was quietly passionate: operas, puppies, his cooking, BMW's...  This is his chili recipe. I remember the mornings when I was headed to work, he would have had already started toasting the spices. The aroma of cinnamon, cumin, chili powder, coffee filled our apartment. By the time I came home, a gargantuan pot of tomato, beans, beef, and onion would be paired with tortillas, cheese, fresh diced onion, and sour cream. It was delicious.
